Isla Mujeres, Mexico

Why the name Tamarind?
For over ten years we have been professional filmmakers in advertising and documentary. During this time we had several friends ask us to help photograph their weddings. We found such joy in this process of not just capturing the event but being a part of the adventure with our friends that we decided to open up The Tamarind Tree to continue this passion.
We came up with the name on a small Mexican island, Isla Mujeres, as we were reorganizing our professional life mixed with the new life of parenthood. We wanted a name that evoked a tropical fun feeling so we chose – Tamarind Tree!

Why are you two?
We are partners in almost everything we do – and this is our passion that we share together. Of course on first glance, most wedding photographers are just one. But actually with weddings 150 people or larger – most of these single photographers take a second shooter with them as the amount of photos needed to be taken at certain times is better handled by two. We have found a wonderful mix of blending our distinct yet complimentary styles that we believe gives a plus to just having one style. On a more practical level, it also allows us to be in two places at the same time – one with the groom and one with the bride during preparation, for example, or one photographing the couple session while the other photographs the decorations and guests so you can see all the wonderful memories that happened on your day.

How long does a couple session last?
We prefer if possible to let the moments last so it feels more of a time spent with the one you love rather than a rushed fast paced job.

We wish we could meet with you, but we don’t live in Paris. Is there an alternative?
We often discuss and book with people over the telephone or Skype. In fact, Anthony and Christina in Toronto called us and arranged everything by Skype and email.

Who takes care of accommodation, transportation, and expenses?
Within 30km of Paris there is no additional expense fees. Outside of that, there is a transportation fee which we discuss whether by train, plane, or car.
Again, outside of Paris, our clients arrange accommodation where we prefer to arrive the day before and leave the day after. Meals are usually arranged by our clients for the full time we are with them. Some clients invite us to be a part of the sit down meals, but a quick fresh meal provided by the chef for vendors works just as well for us.

When do we do the couple session during the wedding day?
The answer is really whenever you want! Often the couple session is planned right after the ceremony and before the reception, and sometimes it is a spontaneous 10 minute moment during the day when the light and feeling is just right.

Do you photograph details and family group photos?
Yes! A wedding photography collection would not be complete without good details and family photos, and we take all the photographs you would expect out of any wedding photographer. But our goal is to also go past those expectations and give you photographs that you never even imagined.

My fiancé is uncomfortable having his picture taken. How can you help him on the wedding day?
We are very calm, mellow people who tend to blend into the scene. That, combined with our documentary style, will have you both used to us within the first half-hour of your getting-ready time. The only time you’ll really be aware of the cameras is during the family group photo and the creative portraits, and during this time we will guide you through everything. You can just be yourselves, and we will take care of the rest.

How do we decide upon a shot list?
When you contact us about shooting your wedding, we will send you our Pinterest to look through. You will see all sorts of ideas you can have, including photos of your dress, jewelry, shoes, flowers, food and reception décor. From there we can discuss what photos and what style you’d like best for your day. The only list we will ask for is your list of family group shots.

How many photos do I get?
We don’t necessarily count the photos but we ensure to provide every must-have photo and capture the feeling of the moment. That being said we average around 500+ for a small wedding and 1000+ for medium to large sized weddings.

When will we see our photographs?
The day after we provide a selection of 10 ready to share photos. Because we take such care in making sure all your edited photographs will look great for years to come, completion takes about 2 weeks. At that time, your online gallery will be made available for you and all your friends and family to see. If you are pressed for time we also have an option of completion in 5-7 days.

Who keeps the copyright of the photos?
For us, this is your special day, and we want to make it yours. That is why we give you full copyright to do whatever you wish with your photos – forever.

How do we hire you?
We love to talk person to person about pricing, products, and availability. We can communicate through any means – meeting, Skype, facebook, whatsapp, or wechat. Between the signature of the contract and your d-day we will communicate about all aspects of the wedding, in fact we love to talk about it! After that, you can count on us to be there with our cameras for the most anticipated day of your life.
